It’s been announced that final performance for Dragon Ash’s first nationwide tour in three years, Dragon Ash Tour THE SHOW MUST GO ON will take place on May 31, 2014 at the Nippon Budokan. For Dragon Ash, it will be the group’s first experience performing at Nippon Budokan.
Although it’s been seventeen years since the band was formed, the reason why a performance at the Nippon Budokan never came into question was because the band focused on standing performances, so they purposefully avoided halls where the audience was primarily seated. Initially when the band’s album became a double-million-seller in the year 2000 making a large-scale performance at the Nippon Budokan a possibility, it was logistically difficult to pack people into a hall the way you could at an arena, the band kept passing on the Nippon Budokan over and over. Further, the leader of the group, Kj, felt that he wanted to perform at a distance where he could still see the audience’s faces, so the band spent a lot of their career performing at live houses.
However, in 2013, the present six members of the band wanted to revamp their live performance style with something new, and decided to hold a performance at the Nippon Budokan as a show of gratitude for the fans that had supported them over the years. Clearing all the requirements and logistics, the Nippon Budokan show will finally come into realization as the finale of this new album’s tour.
The tour finale will be based on their new album, their first release in three years, titled “THE FACES”, and it is said that the show will feature special staging. It was also announced that the Limited Edition version of the “THE FACES” album (released on January 15) will include a serial number that will allow the purchaser to pre-reserve seats for the Nippon Budokan performance.
