On December 13, yukihiro's solo unit, acid android, performed an event entitled "acid android live 2013" at Shinkiba STUDIO COAST in Tokyo.
It has been about eight months since acid android's last one-man performance in April of 2013. This time, the guitarist was KENT from Lillies and Remains and the Drummer was Daigo Yamaguchi from People In The Box, recent regulars at acid android's performances.
The show began with the song "unsaid," which they performed with a thin veil hanging at the front of the stage. The sound of the bass drum made the floor vibrate, the silhouettes of the three performers faintly visible from behind the veil. The force of the low notes was enough to rock a venue such as STUDIO COAST, which also known for holding large-scale club events. The bass drum, distorted guitar, and synthesized strings joined together with yukihiro's murmuring voice and the song progressed with a gentle flow. Coupled with the minimal images projected by the VJ, all at once they pulled the audience into their unnatural and beautiful world.
Partway through the second song, "intertwine," the veil opened and revealed the three figures standing onstage. The song features subtle sequencer characteristic of yukihiro, but the tension of the guitar was more restrained than it is on the CD, and the song became even more emotional as a result. The synthesizer and sequencing parts are indispensable for acid android concerts, but naturally there were also songs that yukihiro arranged specifically for live performances, and both KENT and Yamaguchi changed the arrangement for their own instruments. yukihiro's fixation about not simply reproducing the CDs, but rather updating the songs continually for live performances, was evident in this performance.
Following "balancing doll," "imagining noises," and "gamble," the audience could hear the the live arrangement of the sequencer in the down-tempo song "pause in end." Following the song "purification," the intro for "swallowtail" was also changed for live performances. yukihiro's performances are always unique and interesting because songs like this gain new aspects when performed live. With absolutely no MCs, yukihiro sang nonstop, simply singing songs as in an unobtrusive manner as though in another world.
The modulated beat created by the abundant reverberations of the aforementioned strong bass drum, along with the snare drum, were pleasant to listen to. Additionally, the sound of guitar and synthesizer moved freely and had a deep impact on listeners.
Next, acid android performed three new songs in a row. The first number featured a straightforward beat and chord progression that was rather colorful for yukihiro. The second song featured synthesized bass in the intro and beautiful synthesizer in the chorus, through which listeners could feel the influence of Depeche Mode, who yukihiro deeply respects. The third song had a groove to which you could move your body, which came together with synthesized and chaotic guitar. It is unknown whether these songs will be featured on acid android's next release, but through them it was possible to imagine what direction yukihiro's music will take next.
Following "i.w.o.m.f.p.p just an android" with its cutting-edge guitar, "egoistic ideal," which features elements of drum 'n' bass, and the exciting, four-on-the-floor song "daze," they performed another new song. This song was a rock number that gave a nu rave-type impression. The performance reached its climax with "violent parade," which has a live-only intro with an industrial sound, and the one-of-a-kind song "violator."
yukihiro performed seventeen songs with enough variety to ensure that the audience would never lose interest. His calm, cool demeanor left a strong impression. It was the type of performance that can be called a compilation of acid android in 2013, transcending both industrial and techno music and undoubtedly becoming yet another precious experience for music fans.
