VAMPS: London concert and their first documentary show to air
VAMPS are taking on the world with their all-English lyrics best-of album. WOWOW will air the final show of their European tour, which was in London, and the band’s first documentary show. Autographed posters will be given away to commemorate this event.
VAMPS is a rock group composed of L’Arc~en~Ciel vocalist, HYDE, and Oblivion Dust guitarist, K.A.Z. They released their first all-English best-of album, titled “SEX BLOOD ROCK N’ ROLL”, worldwide in September, and then went off on a European tour. WOWOW will broadcast their October 7 concert at O2 Academy Islington, London on November 24 (Sunday) at 9:00pm on [WOWOW LIVE].
WOWOW will air VAMPS’ first documentary show called “Non-Fiction w VAMPS, SEKAI NI KAMITSUKU ~HYDE To K.A.Z GA MEZASU Made In Japan NO CHOUSEN~” on November 29 (Sunday), at 9:00pm. The documentary shows the two’s worldview and approaches to life.
VAMPS have played close to 300 shows overseas since forming in 2008, but this was the first time they played London. The previous night’s show was cancelled due to HYDE’s throat problem. The show started with the dark and heavy sounds of “VAMPIRE DEPRESSION”. HYDE shouted and K.A.Z. started playing percussive guitar to show that “VAMPS have descended!” Heavy rock was the main sound, but mixed in were a variety of songs like the fast-paced, “DEVIL SIDE,” the danceable “THE PAST,” and the melodic “MEMORIES”.
HYDE both shouted in his “death voice” and sang in his beautiful falsetto with grace. He pumped up the crowd, moved his body to the music, and stared down audience members as though he was bewitching them. Not only is HYDE one of the best vocalists in Japan, his charisma and charm reaches the scope of the whole world. K.A.Z. mesmerized the crowd with his skillful and steady, yet aggressive guitar work.
HYDE captivated the crowd with his dramatic performance of David Bowie’s “Life On Mars?”. The British rock cover song seemed to have a special place in the hearts’ of the local crowd. During their rendition of Shampoo’s 90’s hit, “TROUBLE”, HYDE shouted, “Come on, London!”, and got the smiling crowd into a giant sing along. The venue was wrapped in a happy atmosphere that felt very good.
HYDE then addressed the crowd, “Hello, London! Are you having fun?” The crowd responded in unison with a “Yeah!!!” as VAMPS proceeded into the second half of their set. They went into fast paced songs like “AHEAD” AND “ANGEL TRIP” and built the energy up even more. The band’s relaxed and content state during this was very memorable.
The fan favorite ballad, “SWEET DREAMS” and the VAMPS-style rock tunes, “REVOLUTION II” and “LOVE ADDICT” were also well received by the crowd. “SEX BLOOD ROCK N’ ROLL”, which is the title of their album and also a sort of anthem for VAMPS, brought the energy level to its maximum.
HYDE’s charismatic performance was complimented by K.A.Z.’s colorful guitar work. VAMPS’ exciting performance was equaled by the crowd’s warm applause and screams. This energy can be experienced in the concert broadcast.
“Non-Fiction w VAMPS, SEKAI NI KAMITSUKU ~HYDE To K.A.Z GA MEZASU Made In Japan NO CHOUSEN~” follows VAMPS through Barcelona, Paris, Berlin, and London and shows the group’s the challenges and struggles with the world tour. In the interviews, we see VAMPS talk about their struggles, their dreams when they were young, and their outlook. This documentary does a splendid job in capturing the essence of whom we know as VAMPS.

VAMPS Announce U.S. Tour Support Acts
Some very cool news from VAMPS who just announced their support acts for their upcoming shows in L.A. and N.Y.C.
Living Dead Lights will serve as support for the Los Angeles show at the iconic House of Blues on December 4, while Killcode have come aboard for the N.Y.C. show at the soon-to-be-closed Roseland Ballroom on December 8th, with VAMPS sliding in to make history before the famous venue closes it's doors forever, which is very sad news for the cities concert goers.
But that's not all!
Sid from Slipknot will be the support DJ at both the L.A. and N.Y.C. show. It's going to be a party on both coasts, for sure! These VAMPS gigs are shaping up to be "can't miss" and "must see" events -- these are no mere concerts! The band, which is pretty much bigger than God in its native Japan, camping out at several-thousand seat venues for week-long residencies, has the U.S. squarely in its sights, promising a night to remember on each coast. VAMPS plan to leave a mark.
The duo last crashed American shores over three years ago. They are back supporting "Sex Blood Rock N' Roll", a collection of hard-charging, addictively catchy rock anthems available now via Spinefarm Records in the U.S. Rock bible Kerrang! awarded the record a 4-K review, warning "Don't let these VAMPS pass you by."

VAMPS presents <HALLOWEEN PARTY 2013> Makuhari Final
2013 marks the seventh year for the HALLOWEEN PARTY 2013 event presented by VAMPS.
This years’ event took place at the same venue, Kobe World Memorial Hall for two days and Makuhari Messe for three days following 2012 precedent while the tickets sold out like a premium deal. That was clear evidence the Vamps Halloween event has an increase in consumer demand. That said, the event finale on October 27 at Makuhari brought in 14,000 people in the audience, full of excitement.
The starter of the day stage was DAIGO, who also released a single this past summer. He has an upcoming release in December, ‘BUTTERFLY’ from which he must have gotten an inspiration for his butterfly like costume for the day.
Next appeared Nogizaka46, in the gothic-inspired and vampire like black costumes. They smiled saying, ‘we usually wear school uniforms, so this is kind of fun’ and performed using the space on site to show their stage.
The third artist was Golden Bomber. At first the monitor screen showed the members making them look like they were dressed as women, but it wasn’t them for real. The real members jumped out of a secret spot covered by a black fabric giving fans a nice surprise. Like one of those typical Japanese summer scenes hitting a watermelon with a stick on the beach, they had a cute little ‘pumpkin-hitting’ on stage for fun, and the stage went on with songs involving groups to head bang on and off stage. The last song by Golden Bomber was ‘Memeshikute’ in which the audience jumped up and down to the tunes.
More entertainment was thrown even in between artist stages. Hisashi Yamada, who claims to be one of the representative VAMPS fans, came up as the presenter on stage, facilitating the audience to compete dance performance, which had been announced well in advance via VAMPS homepage with complete choreography for HALLOWEEN DANCE PARTY 2013. A costume fashion show followed by name of HALLOWEEN COLLECTION 2013 (a.k.a NOT an equivalency of Paris Fashion Week!). A karaoke stage took place shortly after featuring a comedian, Ryuji Aoki, known for his impersonation of artists. “Got a call from god (HYDE) saying, ‘You just come’” said Aoki joining the stage for karaoke battle ‘From KARAOKE to the STAGE’. This karaoke battle was quite a serious game in which people had to audition on the day and the finalists were picked by the VAMPS themselves.
7:45 pm at Makuhari Messe. Wild applause and cheers were heard in the back of the audience area. It was VAMPS brought in by a decorative coach, from which HYDE was staring at the audience with glares in his eyes. The band members headed toward runway as they got off the coach. HYDE took his steps slowly. Like a medieval circus on wheels, the huge stage set started lighting on and off. HYDE went toward the back of stage and moved his way up to the top of stairs. He stood on top and held the cheers from the audience with both hands, and in the next second HYDE took a dive in the air. We heard screams. Screams then turned into wild cheers as HYDE revealed himself on the top of the coach again. People looked puzzled to understand what just happened. The audience was completely taken by a surprise.
The opening song for VAMPS was ‘HALLOWEEN PARTY~HARD CORE Ver.~’. The coach ran around the venue with HYDE. HYDE was giving a roar as he sang. People knew that HYDE had ‘descended’ for this day event. Servants like bats held onto VAMPS flags and the band played ‘REVOLUTION II’.
“Welcome to HALLOWEEN PARTY. We are gonna make it the craziest night ever.”
As they fueled the fans, they played ‘AHEAD’. During ‘ANGEL TRIP’, K.A.Z. dashed through the runway while the metallic red tape confetti flew in the sky. The fans waved to dance along K.A.Z. making him look like he was Moses controlling the ocean waves.
“Are you dead finely? (lol) You all look 20% prettier than usual that is the magic of cosplay. Feels like I wanna eat you all up.” (HYDE)
As fans responded to him in excitement, HYDE made a comment on his outfit, “well, today is the last show, so I came in full formal wear.”
HYDE showed up in his original vampire character costume. It was 2012 when he first revealed the style in full, illustrated and made by HYDE. On top of HYDE thoroughness, staff showed their seriousness, and that is this crazy Halloween event has come this far. Thoroughness to have fun is really an interactive effort between the band and the fans. HYDE continued;
“I know you are gonna pop ‘cuz it’s our last day. Let’s do it. Are you all ready, to be naughty? Let’s move on!”
Flames of fire were rolled out on ‘RUMBLE~HALLOWEEN Ver.~’. The original of the song is a jazzy one with melancholic tunes, but it was a complete different arrangement. It was like a symphony at first then sounded more like ‘loud’ music. The arrangement was just full of variation almost like a ‘remix’ of some sort. This was one of the very moments proving VAMPS was not just a stage performer, but one band of a kind that is constantly hungry for all the better.
VAMPS live show came to pause, and HALLOWEEN JUNKEY ORCHESTRA time started.
In addition to the performers of the day, lots of names including Shinya (DIR EN GREY), Kanon Wakeshima, Shinji (SID), aki (SID) and more guests from previous attendees all joined in this occasion. Anis acted a facilitator for the drumming game ‘Rhythm Game’, in which HYDE and K.A.Z. ended up getting the penalty together.
The rarest scene of the day was TERU and TAKURO from GLAY appearing on stage.
TERU dressed as Captain Harlock and TAKURO in top-to-toe white vampire look, and they performed one of their hit songs ‘Yuwaku’ with HALLOWEEN JUNKEY ORCHESTRA.
TERU and HYDE took the main vocal and chorus parts in turns. Not only it was the sweetest bonus to the audience, it was really a hot surprise for the performers. DAIGO stood in awe saying, ‘uh, I know I’m supposed to run around and get best out of everyone here, but gee I just stood and watched this awesome performance” HYDE added his comment saying, “I’m definitely turned on”.
The audience laughed with TERU and TAKURO on stage. So did staff members. More than this Makuhari Messe event being out of reach for everyone, this was a moment like a friendly family event.
Tommy heavenly6 was called in on stage and everyone played the very song made for the event, ‘HALLOWEEN PARTY’. The bats on stage danced to the tunes as well. HYDE’s HALLOWEEN world interprets it like a pop and colorful lively event. And it’s never complete. Every year HYDE seems to bring in more elements to it. Maybe more feel.
As ‘HALLOWEEN PARTY’ kept playing, the venue light was gradually turned on at around almost 9 pm. HYDE called out to Makuhari;
“HAPPY HALLOWEEN!See you next year!”
VAMPS presents <HALLOWEEN PARTY 2013>, second time at Makuhari
October 26, Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Halls. The typhoon that brought much worry passed, and the Halloween night skies were clear. VAMPS hosted <HALLOWEEN PARTY 2013> for their second time at Makuhari Messe. The fourth of five shows finally went off as a blast.
DAIGO once again opened <HALLOWEEN PARTY> with his enthusiastic performance. DAIGO was dressed as Eren Yeager, the main character of the hugely popular anime and comic, Attack on Titan. He reenacted fight scenes with giants on stage and instantly pumped up the crowd. He sang songs ranging from “MARIA”, from his DAIGO*STARDUST debut days, to his July solo releases “MUGEN∞REBIRTH” and “ITSUMO DAKISHIMETE”. DAIGO also talked about drinking with HYDE after yesterday’s show. He drank too much out of nervousness and fell asleep. He ended his set with an upbeat tune called “SUMMER PARTY” by his own band, BREAKERZ.
Tommy Heavenly6 was the next to take the stage. She was dressed gorgeously in a black t-shirt, one-piece skirt, and puffy tulle. Her hair was blond and tied up, much like in the image of Marie Antoinette. She looked like she would be a princess in her song, “CALL ME PRINCESS”. “I didn’t think I’d be on this stage again this year. I got so nervous, and I have a headache from concentrating too hard.” Her modest words made the crowd laugh. She then mesmerized the crowd with her energetic performance that goes against her delicate looks, while exuding her unique world view and style. Tommy Heavenly6 said of her upcoming November release, “I got a lot of energy from you all today. I can probably finish the album in time.” She then went into her latest song, “Ruby Eyes”.
Yasu of Acid Black Cherry, dressed as a black cat, led Acid Black Halloween which formed just for this concert. Unfortunately, Acid Black Halloween could not perform on the first day due to health issues. However, they came back and rocked the stage with that distinct high voice. “We are sorry about yesterday,” Yasu bowed and apologized to the crowd. It was hard to take eyes off of Yasu, who hardly ever stopped moving and would run up and down the runway. Yasu was supported by Shinya of DIR EN GREY on drums, HIRO of Libraian/La’cryma Christi on guitar, Leda from DELUHI who also played for DAIGO, and Ju-ken of VAMPS on bass. “Next up, what you’ve been waiting for. Get crazy!” VAMPS were then introduced as the next act.
During fashion show "HALLOWEEN COLLECTION" which raised audience heat during idol time, Rolly and Kanon Wakeshima, Aki (from SID) and Hitsugi (from Nightmare) made a surprise appearance. During the karaoke performance segment "From KARAOKE to the STAGE", Ryuji Aoki made a four years in-a-row appearance, with hyde performing a L'Arc〜en〜Ciel medley starting with "the Fourth Avenue Café", raising the entire crowd in splendor.
VAMPS further hyped up the crowd that was already at peak energy. The members walked one by one to the main stage while dawning gothic clothes and Mexican skull face makeup that they started on the second day in Kobe. As the somber “RUMBLE ~ HALLOWEEN Ver.~” played, HYDE walked out onto stage dressed in a black dress with his long hair wrapped up. When he reached the center of the stage, HYDE was lifted up. His long black skirt transformed him into a giant HYDE as the crowd was left astonished.
“Phew, Hot! Are you guys hot? It’s getting hot. I know, I know, I know! It’s because it’s Halloween”
Screams of “KAWAII!” were heard from the crowd. HYDE spoke back, “Yes, I know. I’m sorry for being kawaii (cute),” and pumped the crowd up even more. As “TROUBLE” started up, HYDE moved from the stage to the roof of a carriage and yelled “MAKUHATTE MAKKA-!” This phrase that references Makuhari is well known and familiar to the crowd. HYDE then starts singing all around the stage. K.A.Z. then told the crowd, “We’re gonna jump, ok? 3, 2, 1.” As he counted down and pointed his finger to the ceiling on 1, the crowd jumped in unison.
HALLOWEEN JUNKY ORCHESTRA closed out the night. During “Rhythm Game,” HYDE was forced to do a punishment game. HYDE says, “Well… The one that made me the most nervous in New York…” and started to sing an acapella version of L’Arc~en~Ciel’s “JOJOSHI”. They followed with a cover of “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” by The Beatles and a sing along version of “HALLOWEEN PARTY,” which become a sort of theme song for the event. The second day of <HALLOWEEN PARTY 2013> at Makuhari came off as a great success. Fireworks went off to welcome the final day of the event tomorrow.
