Three members of SOPHIA form a new band, MICHAEL, during SOPHIA hiatus

Rock band, SOPHIA, went on hiatus after their final show of their <SOPHIA TOUR 2013 MIRAI OTONA SENGEN> tour on August 12. Mitsuru Matsuoka (vocals), Kazutaka Toyota (guitar), and Yoshitomo Akamatsu (drums) formed a new band called MICHAEL.

Late night on November 9, SOPHIA’s official fan club, “Eternal”, and Mitsuru Matsuoka’s official fan club, “7zoo7”, unexpectedly displayed silhouettes of three people with the text “MICHAEL start up”. Once people realized the silhouettes were of Mitsuru Matsuoka, Kazutaka Toyota, and Yoshitomo Akamatsu, the news went viral among SOPHIA fans.

“We will not take down SOPHIA’s flag”
“From tomorrow, we will all walk our own paths with SOPHIA as our fuel”
“As long as we move forward, it’s guaranteed that we will meet again”

Matsuoka said these words at SOPHIA’s Nippon Budokan concert just before the band’s hiatus. SOPHIA is not gone forever. This new direction will fuel SOPHIA. The name, MICHAEL, comes from the saint that opposed Lucifer. “Lucifer” is also a track off of SOPHIA’s “Little Circus” album, and shows that SOPHIA will continue to live on through MICHAEL.

MICHAEL will put on two shows for “Eternal” and “7zoo7” fan club members, called <”Holy Night from Archangel” 20131224-1225>, on December 24 at ZEPP NAMBA, and on December 25 at ZEPP TOKYO. All attendees will receive MICHAEL’s first CD for free. This will be MICHAEL’s “DAIREISHO” (Chapter zero).

MICHAEL’S “Chapter One” will come in 2014. Let’s look forward to what kind of music and performances MICHAEL have in store for us.
