At Release Event for “CAVALCADE,” SCREW Holds Mini-Concert and Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament

In honor of their new single, "CAVALCADE," which was released on November 6, SCREW held a mini-concert and talk event at the B1 CUTUP STUDIO at Tower Records in Shibuya.

They began their mini-concert with the single's title track, "CAVALCADE." In the music video, the cool way the members shot at own their heads with fingers they'd formed into guns became a hot topic of conversation amongst fans. During the performance as well, vocalist Byo shot at the members, a gesture copied by the fans as they really got into the song.

The second song was the upbeat tune, "Get You Back," which has already become a standard number at concerts despite being from SCREW's most recent album. The audience moshed back and forth, and when the crowd had gotten excited, SCREW played the coupling tracks to "CAVALCADE," called "IT'S A CATCH-22" and "GROGGY SLUMBER," back-to-back. Guitarists Kazuki and Manabu performed with a power incongruous with the fact that this was their first live performance of the tracks, and drummer Jin and bassist Rui created a well-rounded, deep sound that riled up the audience.

For their last song, SCREW performed "Barbed wire," and the highlight of the performance was the way the whole crowd came together as they headbanged. It was a performance from which one could understand SCREW's present state, as they ramp up the heaviness of their sound and continue down a unique road.

They followed this up with a talk corner. Comedian Takuya Hoshino, who fans are familiar with from things like NicoNico live streams, served as the MC. Having interacted with the members many times in the past on these programs and elsewhere, the tone was also perfect. The talk portion included enjoyable conversations about the particulars of the new songs and the music video.

And on that day, SCREW held their first rock, paper, scissors tournament, in which all the members of SCREW participated. The prize for the winner was to be featured in the center of the group photos that will be used for the next release at instore events and elsewhere.

After a heated match, vocalist Byo was declared the winner, but they realized that if Byo won, the photos would be the same as always, so Byo withdrew from the tournament. When they played one more time, bassist Rui won the chance to be in the center.

Afterward, Rui enthusiastically said, "I had the fortune of becoming rock, paper, scissors queen. I used paper each time and won. I'm going to be in the center, so I'll do the best to make it a good photo!" Everyone is now looking forward to seeing this next photo.

As the final part of the talk event, Byo spoke about SCREW's eighth anniversary concert, "SCREW 8th Anniversary Live NEVERENDING BREATH AT AKASAKA BLITZ," which will be held on April 20, 2014. To the fans, he said, "Next year, SCREW will celebrate the eighth anniversary of our formation. Together, let's all make our way toward that performance on April 20, 2014! I think it will be the sort of concert from which everyone who attends will be able to bring something home."
