DIR EN GREY Kyo’s New Band sukekiyo’s Video Marks 1st Place On First Appearance

DIR EN GREY Kyo’s new project, sukekiyo, which began activity with two secret live concerts that took place at the end of last year, released their first-ever music video, “aftermath”, through iTunes on January 1. The video was released in 111 countries and marked first place on its first appearance on the Top Music Video (General Ranking) on the Japanese iTunes Store in which the song kept its position for three consecutive days. Marking first place despite works by big-name artists who participated in the Record Taisho and Kohaku Uta Gassen being in the mix, sukekiyo is clearly a force to be reckoned with. The song continues to extend its 1st place record on the Alternative Chart.

The music video of “aftermath” which expresses “beauty within distortion” was created entirely by Kyo. In the background during the band’s performance scene in the video, there is a memorable scene where the model, K-MICHIKO, is tied and hung up by the world-renowned Hajime Kinoko. The rope art resembling an enormous spider web blends with sukekiyo’s music to create a maddening beauty.

Official sukekiyo merchandises were released on Kyo’s official online store, “Penyunne Zemeckis”, on January 8. The lineup includes T-shirts, iPhone cases and the EP “the daemon’s cutlery” which was recorded in analog with just one take on the first day that sukekiyo stepped into the rehearsal studio.

DIR EN GREY vocalist Kyo formed the new band sukekiyo as new project.

Although the official website for sukekiyo had opened at the end of October, the artist picture posted on the site only had a silhouette of the members and the names of the members had been hidden behind a thick veil; however, even before the full band had been revealed, the band was announced to perform as opening act at SHIBUYA-AX for SUGIZO TOUR 2013 ＜THRIVE TO REALIZE＞ on December 29th along with performing at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Halls at ＜rockin’ on presents COUNTDOWN JAPAN 13/14＞ on December 20th. All eyes gathered to get a glimpse of the mysterious band.

After finishing off two secret concerts, new artist pictures were revealed on the band’s official website on December 20th, revealing for the first time that sukekiyo was Kyo’s new project.

Kyo pursued alternate forms of art in 2013, simultaneously releasing his first photo collections “Shikkaku” and “for the human race” along with holding exhibitions in Kyoto and Tokyo. “To express to live and to live to express”, Kyo’s new quintuplet band sukekiyo consists of Kyo (Voice), Takumi (Guitar/Piano), UTA (Guitar), YUCHI (Bass), and Mika (Drums).

It has been announced that sukekiyo would be releasing the music video for their first recorded song “aftermath” in 111 countries through iTunes Store on January 1, 2014 (Wed). Kyo dictated everything from the story to the cast for this first video with its concept being “the beauty within distortion”.

Although sukekiyo’s schedule from here on is yet to be revealed, with having both DIR EN GREY and now sukekiyo as an outlet for artistic expression, Kyo is sure to extend his style even more from here on. 

DIR EN GREY is scheduled to release the new single “SUSTAIN THE UNTRUTH” on January 22nd, hold the exclusive fan club members tour, ＜FINEM LAUDA- ‘a knot’ only -＞ in February and hold the 2-day concert ＜DUM SPIRO SPERO＞ (tickets sold out) at Nippon Budokan on March 8 and 9.

Dir en Grey's Kyo Starts New Solo Project

On October 31st a mysterious band called "Sukekiyo" opened its website. There were no details on the members or on lives performances that time but two weeks later it was announced that this band will play as opening act for Sugizo's live tour "THRIVE TO REALIZE" at Shibuya AX on December 29th. The performance started only three hours ago but there are already people tweeting their experiences.

Sukekiyo turns out to be the solo project of Dir en Grey's Kyo. According to several people on twitter he performed with four musicians that weren't introduced to the audience. Rumors who these people are are spreading but there's no official confirmation yet. 

The band performed three songs and they've already released an EP titled "the daemon's cutlery" that costs 1800 Yen and is available at lives. Moreover, you can also buy official goods at lives, for example T-Shirt, towel, sticker, cup and iPhone case.

Sukekiyo's next live will be tomorrow at COUNTDOWN JAPAN.
